The BTR-80 is a Soviet-era 8×8 wheeled armored personnel carrier that entered service in the 1980s. It was designed to transport infantry troops under protection while providing light fire support. The vehicle is powered by a single diesel engine and is amphibious, capable of crossing water obstacles without preparation. The BTR-80 is armed with a 14.5mm KPVT heavy machine gun and a 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun.
The BTR-82 is an upgraded variant of the BTR-80, introduced in the 2010s. It features significant improvements, including a more powerful 300-horsepower engine, enhanced armor, and modernized electronics. The BTR-82A, a specific version of the BTR-82, is equipped with a 30mm 2A72 autocannon, which significantly boosts its firepower compared to the BTR-80. Both vehicles are equipped with NBC protection systems, night-vision capabilities, and enhanced crew comfort.
